Addiction has an impact on every member of a household, from the oldest members of the family to the very youngest. When someone in your home has a substance abuse problem, every generation feels the consequences of chemical dependence, and everyone needs help dealing with these devastating effects.
Sacred and Free's program for families of addiction strives to treat a group or network of individuals who are affected by addiction. There are no pre-determined standards on what constitutes a family. The goals are to build stronger relationships within the family, increase effective communication, identify at-risk family members, prevent younger generations from adopting addictive behaviors, create an environment that supports health and sobriety, reinforce healthy boundaries, and help family members heal from the destructive effects of addiction.
Many couples find that their communication over time needs to shift with each partners growth and change. It is important to have a space where we can safely come together with our partners and teach them what we have learned about ourselves and learn how we can participate in each others growth and well-being.
Couples counseling does not need to grow out of the idea that something needs to be fixed. Choosing to participate in couple therapy as a means of maintaining or increasing a partnership is a healthy way to choose being the best version of your team as a possible.
We assist couples working through substance use concerns, infertility, struggles with physical and emotional intimacy, communication concerns, amongst other areas.
Substance abuse or addiction can have an impact on all areas of a person’s life. It can be confusing to understand if you have a problem (or if your loved one has a substance abuse problem) and ultimately what to do about it.
The confusion alone can deeply affect us on many levels. Substance abuse can cause damage to the body, mind, and relationships.
Sometimes when a person’s substance use has gotten out of control, they may find themselves engaging in activities that endanger themselves or others despite not wanting to.
A substance use evaluation is a tool used to help determine if there is a diagnosable problem and to what severity. Many times they are mandated through the court and other times evaluations are sought out by choice or through an intervention.
Sacred and Free, LLC Drug and Alcohol evaluations are completed by an advanced specialist in the field of addiction. You will never feel judged or under scrutiny. We will walk you through each step of the evaluation with an open mind and make recommendations. We will work with you on how to meet any requirements of probation and parole, should this apply to you.
Private and Group Mediation Instruction
The scientific research on the benefits of meditation has become clear. Meditation as a complement to other therapies may help manage symptoms of anxiety, asthma, cancer, chronic pain, depression, trauma, heart disease, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal concerns, insomnia/sleep interruptions, and stress responses, to name a few.
The emotional benefits of meditation can include the ability to gain new perspectives, resiliency to stressful situations, increased self-awareness, ability to focus on the present moment, reduction of uncomfortable emotions, increased creativity and imagination, and increased patience and tolerance.
As an evidenced based mind and body clinical practice, Sacred and Free clinicians will often refer meditation instruction, both private and group, as a compliment to your psychotherapeutic treatment plan. You do not need to be an active psychotherapy client to utilize this service- we offer guided mindfulness and meditation instruction as a stand alone practice as well.
Our in-house meditation and mindfulness instructor, Dan Appel will guide you into a peaceful and more restorative way of living.

Reiki is a traditional system of healing focused on understanding and addressing the natural energy balance within our physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Reiki practitioners engage with the idea of a universal energy of healing, growth, and compassion that exists naturally in the universe and can be directed through the practitioner’s heart and hands with training and intention. Reiki is a process of empowerment that gives the recipient the opportunity to rest and heal and in the process to become open to their true self in all of its depth and complexity. The language of spiritual healing allows for a poetic and flexible model of our unique human experiences and affirms the idea that each one of us belongs here in the universe and deserves to live with ease, peace, and happiness.
Our in-house Reiki practitioner and meditation and mindfulness instructor, Dan Appel, will guide you through the effortless, relaxing, and rejuvenating process of Reiki healing.
